Description

Introducing No. Z - A New Salted Collodion from the Result of Years of Experimentation and Research.

No. Z is the result of extensive research conducted over several years to uncover the intricate interactions between the components in salted collodion and the properties they contribute. This combined with research unavailable during the prominence of wet plate collodion has revealed the strengths and weaknesses of various formulas. UV Photographics has harnessed this knowledge to create a superior collodion with desirable properties that wet plate photographers seek: speed, tonality, stability, cleanliness, ease of pouring, and ease of development.

Photographers prioritize different qualities in collodion, but a slow, unstable, and flat formula is not what most shooters are seeking. No. Z addresses these concerns and offers a range of benefits that will elevate your wet plate collodion experience:

Fast: No. Z surpasses UVP-X by +1/3 stop, ensuring faster exposure times making it easier to get the shot and look you want.

Stable: This collodion maintains its speed and strength for an extended period of 12-18 months, providing consistent results over time.

Tonality: Ideal for capturing striking portraits, No. Z excels when used with strobes or natural lighting, resulting in captivating images.

    my new go to collodion

This collodion has become my favorite for portraits. It has a bit more speed which really helps in the waning light of Montana's summer shoulder seasons. I like to mix a bit of new batch with a bit of older batch and that seems to mellow it into a sweet spot with great tonality and good sensitivity.

    Exceptionally long lasting!

I can attest to the keeping qualities of No. Z — I am still using this collodion after 2+ years and it works perfectly. Keep it away from light and heat and you can expect it to last 2 years or more. More importantly, it offers better speed than my traditional favorite (Old Workhorse) and has beautiful tonality. Brian has crafted an excellent collodion recipe here.

I’m still new to the wet plate process. But using your NO z made my Tintype success rate much higher.

    Great stuff!

I’ve used UVP’s UVPX and UVPZ collodion exclusively for over five years. They are wonderfully fast, stable for months, and extremely reliable and consistent. Some may prefer this or that collodion formula to give a better range of tones, or contrast, but I find UVPZ renders my subjects, especially in studio portraits, beautifully and naturally. I have used No. Z both with strobes, and in bright outdoor daylight to great effect. Being a faster collodion, Z affords a lot of options for shooting, without the need for shooting wide open, or with massive amounts of light. It’s a great product, and a staple in my studio.

This is a very fast collodion which I have used for both outdoor and indoor shoots. It produces smooth, rich images with excellent contrast. I’ll definitely keep using it.
