Description

100% Sandarac Varnish used for Tintypes, Ambrotypes, and Glass Negatives.

This varnish is made with  100% pure sandarac resin which is treated with activated carbon then micro filtered to remove additional all and particulates. Only pure 95% ethanol is used to ensure that no harsh denaturants harm the image during the most dreaded step of the wet plate process.  The resin, alcohol and steam distilled French lavender oil are balanced so that the varnish can be applied at room temperature, then heated to dry.

One of the main advantages of this varnish is that the final coating tends to give slightly higher gloss over shellac varnishes.  This is a favorite varnish of many wet plate photographers making images today.

Excellent varnish that coats smoothly on warmed plates. I'm restocking since I have found other uses for the sandarac varnish and have gone through my first bottle sooner than expected!

Reliable, well-filtered-- I stopped using Bostick's varnish due to it being poorly filtered and having lots of debris--same issues when I'd make my own (hah!)- this is so much better and more reliable

Brian's Sandarac is well made: reliable and consistent, easy to use and gives a superb finish. I've used UV Photographics Shellac as well and it gives a mirror finish on glass negatives!
