UVP X is a modern collodion formula developed for speed, long life, tonal range, and usability.  It is used for making for tintypes, ambrotypes, and glass negatives. UVP X is a cadmium-based formula that ages slowly, so you will have consistent results over a long period of time. Stored in a cool dark place, this collodion will maintain good working properties for 6-12 months.

UVP X is specifically formulated with a slightly higher bromide ratio, which aids in achieving good tonal range in portraits. Also, it is easy to see the image during development, which helps achieve the most from the collodion. It’s the fastest of the super stable formulas (Lea Formula 3, UVP-4, UVP-X).

    UVP-X

Great, fast collodion. Pours well with a nice setup time in controlled environments. When poured outside (windy) it can set pretty fast, but pouring a little quicker avoids any lines. Or…simply pour it in your darkbox (like I typically do) and never have a problem. Great tones, tremendous speed. Great for using with strobes. Stays stable for months with little loss in speed. I’ve been shooting 20+ years and this is the only collodion formula I use outside my own mix. Highly recommend!

Collodion that keeps on keeping on!

Posted by Unknown on Jul 27th 2021

collodion that keeps on keeping on I originally ordered this stuff when I was traveling to LA for a wetplate shoot. I ordered all my chemicals from uv and. Picked it up locally. It was a pleasure to work with After the shoot I ended up shipping all the uv chemicals back to the easy coast. The left over uvpx became my back up collodion when ever my collodion acted up. Which was often. After awhile I realized that after six months the uvpx was still working with no problems. Now this is all I use. Brian should rename this stuff to modern faithful. Or simply the rock.

    Great collodion

Very fast collodion. Great for studio work and outdoors. I tend to hold a bottle for 2-4 weeks before using. Also very stable so can don't have to worry about it getting too slow.
