UVP X is a modern collodion formula developed for speed, long life, tonal range, and usability.  It is used for making for tintypes, ambrotypes, and glass negatives. UVP X is a cadmium-based formula that ages slowly, so you will have consistent results over a long period of time. Stored in a cool dark place, this collodion will maintain good working properties for 6-12 months.

UVP X is specifically formulated with a slightly higher bromide ratio, which aids in achieving good tonal range in portraits. Also, it is easy to see the image during development, which helps achieve the most from the collodion. It’s the fastest of the super stable formulas (Lea Formula 3, UVP-4, UVP-X).

    long lasting and fast

This stuff lasts for months, even in less than favourable conditions. Good tones for positives. Speed doesn't change much over 4 months.

    Very fast and fresh collodion

Posted by Marc Andrew on Jan 5th 2020

I've mixed my own for quite a while. I could never get consistently fresh ether or collodion from various suppliers. The sensitivity often varied 1-3 stops! Not cool. I tried UVP X and it's super fast. Maybe even too fast for in some circumstances. I've been shooting strobe at 2400-4800ws into a softbox between F3.8 - F5.6. At the end of 6 months UVP X has lost a stop or less. Great stuff. Thanks for shipping fresh chems!

Fast, reliable, versatile, long shelf life-- win, win, win, win... broad range of tones in the shadows-- i use it for both indoor portrait work w/strobes and outdoor landscape and works great for both.

Fast, low contrast collodion perfect for strobe lighting

Posted by Ross McLennan on Nov 19th 2019

I shoot single source aluminium type wet plates and I find the contrast perfect from a freshly opened bottle of UVP-X collodion with my f4.5 Wollensack lens and a 9600ws strobe
