You are reserving one of only five spots in our immersive Wet Plate Collodion Workshop, designed to provide personalized instruction and extensive hands-on experience.
This workshop is built around the philosophy that the best way to learn wet plate collodion is by doing it yourself. From pouring your first plate to making finished tintypes and ambrotypes, you'll work through every stage of the process with guidance from experienced practitioners who use the process professionally.
Throughout the workshop, you'll have access to a fully equipped darkroom, a selection of antique and contemporary cameras and lenses, and all the chemistry and materials needed to create your own plates. Our small class size ensures plenty of one-on-one instruction, giving you the opportunity to ask questions, refine your technique, and receive personalized feedback.
Just as importantly, you'll learn how to troubleshoot the challenges that every wet plate photographer encounters. Exposure issues, coating imperfections, chemical contamination, development problems, and environmental variables are all part of the process. Rather than simply following a rote procedure, you'll gain the practical knowledge and confidence to diagnose problems and consistently produce successful plates on your own.
By the end of the workshop, you'll leave with:
- A solid working foundation in the Wet Plate Collodion process.
- Multiple original tintypes and ambrotypes that you've created yourself.
- Practical troubleshooting skills to continue working independently.
- The confidence that comes from learning directly from experts with decades of combined experience.
Meet the Instructors
Brian Cuyler is a seasoned wet plate collodion photographer, camera builder, and founder of UV Photographics, a leading supplier of chemistry and equipment for the alternative process community. With a strong background in chemistry, Brian has refined traditional wet plate formulas to be safer and more user-friendly while preserving the integrity and beauty of the historic process. He has supplied materials and provided technical support to many of today's leading contemporary wet plate artists, and his commitment to craftsmanship and innovation has helped advance the medium for photographers around the world.
Michael Chylinski is the founder of Modern Tintype, a contemporary wet plate portrait studio in Los Angeles. His tintype portraits have been exhibited in galleries throughout the United States and internationally, and have been featured in literary collaborations, including Delicate Scratches with author Wendy Ortiz. His photographic work has appeared in books, magazines, and album covers since the late 1990s. Alongside his wet plate practice, Michael is an avid photographic historian whose current work includes a book of inscribed vernacular photographs in collaboration with Atlanta's Fall Line Press.
Together, Brian and Michael combine decades of practical experience in chemistry, camera building, portraiture, and photographic history. Their teaching approach blends technical precision with hands-on mentorship, giving participants the knowledge, confidence, and experience needed to continue exploring the remarkable Wet Plate Collodion process long after the workshop ends.
If we don't get enough participants for a particular date we will reschedule or issue a refund.

This is a two day workshop
Day One will be instruction and making your own plates - 10:00am to 6:00p
Day Two will be supervised shooting making your own plates 12:00pm to 6:00pm

CANCELLATION POLICY FOR WORKSHOP
Thank you for registering for the Wet Plate Collodion Workshop hosted by UV Photographics and Modern Tintype Photo. We understand that plans may change, and we have implemented the following cancellation policy.
Cancellation Policy:
If you cancel your registration before 3 weeks prior to the workshop you will receive a credit equal to the amount paid to be applied towards a future workshop, or if you prefer, a full refund.
If you cancel your registration after 3 weeks prior to the workshop, there will be no refund or credit issued.
UV Photographics or Modern Tintype Photo may cancel the Workshop at any time and will notify you immediately. In such a case, a full refund or credit towards a future workshop will be issued to you, based on your preference.
Transfer of Registration:
You may transfer your registration to another individual for the Workshop with prior notice to UV Photographics or Modern Tintype Photo.
The transfer must be completed no later than 2 days prior to the Workshop.
Application of Payment:
If you cancel your registration after 3 weeks prior to the workshop, and UV Photographics is able to fill the vacated spot, UV Photographics will apply the amount paid towards a future workshop.
The credit may be used towards any future workshop hosted by UV Photographics and Modern Tintype Photo for up to one year past the original Workshop date.
Miscellaneous:
This cancellation policy represents the entire understanding of the parties with respect to its subject matter and supersedes all prior negotiations, understandings, and agreements between the parties.
This cancellation policy may be modified or updated at any time by UV Photographics or Modern Tintype Photo and will be communicated to you.
